first_imgFrank Lampard has never been blessed with pace, but that didn’t stop him from becoming the player he is.And now the Stamford Bridge favourite has revealed the impact Bobby Moore had on his football development when his dad, Frank Snr, explained to him that England’s World Cup winning captain Moore was not the quickest player either. However, through hard work on other aspects of his game, he became one of football’s most revered defenders.Meanwhile, in 13 years at Chelsea, Lampard won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, the Europa League and the Champions League. In addition, he shared a stage with Ronaldinho when the Brazilian edged him to the 2005 European Player of the Year crown, with the England and Chelsea midfielder settling for second place.Next year will mark 50 years since Moore lifted the World Cup and a film featuring interviews with Lampard, Wayne Rooney and other big names from the football world is due to be released to illustrate why Moore is England’s greatest player. To find out how you can get involved with the kickstarter campaign for Bo66y Moore The Movie visit bobbymooremovie.comlast_img read more

Gerard Houllier back Jurgen Klopp to end Liverpool’s long title drought

first_imgFormer Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier thinks Jurgen Klopp is the man to lead Liverpool to their first ever Premier League title.Despite his trophy-laden spell at Anfield, Houllier could only guide the Reds to one second-place finish in the league, before Rafael Benitez and Brendan Rodgers both narrowly missed out on top spot. However, the Frenchman believes Klopp’s experience and approach to management fits well with Liverpool’s ethos.“Leadership is a transfer of emotion, and in that case I would say [Klopp] will be good,” he told beIN Sports.“Jürgen is a very emotional man whether he wins or loses, and I think his style of management will fit in well with this squad.“[Rafael] Benitez finished second, I finished second as well – but we never managed to get to the first place.“In Benitez’s time it was Manchester United he was up against, and in my time it was Arsenal who were winning and [going] on this undefeated run.“It will be difficult because, Chelsea, Manchester City, the usual suspects, are always there.“But at some stage I think the club can get bigger and probably win a title. That’s what all the fans want and they’ve been waiting years for that.” Jurgen Klopp 1last_img read more

Manchester City captain set for another month on the sidelines

first_img Vincent Kompany Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany faces another month on the sidelines after Manuel Pellegrini confirmed the central defender has suffered a new calf injury setback.Kompany returned from injury as a substitute on Boxing Day but lasted only nine minutes before limping off again, and scans have revealed he has aggravated the same calf but with a different problem. The Belgium international, 29, missed the goalless draw against Leicester on Tuesday night and Pellegrini revealed he will be out for at least another three to four weeks.“Vincent has an injury, a second degree tear of the calf,” said Pellegrini following the stalemate at the King Power Stadium.“We will see how long he will be out, but I don’t think it will be less than three to four weeks.“I am not a doctor, but with a muscle injury, it will be very difficult for him to be back in less than four weeks. But without him, we must continue to defend as did tonight.”Kompany has started just eight Premier League games all season for City and the stalemate at the King Power Stadium was the first time Pellegrini’s men have kept a clean sheet in his absence. 1last_img read more

Mauricio Pochettino sheds light on Tottenham’s pursuit of a new striker and Harry Kane’s future

first_imgMauricio Pochettino expects Tottenham to respond from Wednesday night’s loss to Leicester and insists any of the Premier League’s top 10 can still win the title.Spurs conceded a late Robert Huth goal to fall seven points behind the Foxes and Arsenal in fourth place.Pochettino, who again reiterated striker Harry Kane is not for sale, has backed his charges to bounce back against Sunderland on Saturday, stating: “We missed a great opportunity to establish us on the top and you feel disappointed but you need to carry on and keep working hard.“It’s a very open league. So far anything can happen. All [clubs] in the top 10 have the possibility to win the league.“We played well, we deserved more, but in football you need sometimes to have some luck. It wasn’t for us last night.“In the way we played last night it’s nothing to worry [about] for the future.“We have a quick game on Saturday. It’s very important. We must react, play well and take the three points, because we need to keep our position in the table.”Spurs spurned opportunities and Pochettino remains in search of a striker to ease the burden on Kane.Kane was recently linked with a move to Real Madrid, who on Thursday, along with city rivals Atletico, were hit by a FIFA ban on incoming players in the next two complete transfer windows.Real, banned over transfers involving under-18s, can sign players this month, but Kane will not be among them.“Harry Kane is not for sale,” added Pochettino, who is looking for a player to complement the talents of his talisman.“We cannot change after one result our plan and our view about our squad.“I’ve explained a lot of times that if we find the right profile and the player that can improve our squad, we work hard for that.“If we can add some player, we are open [to it].” Mauricio Pochettino and Claudio Ranieri 1last_img read more

Arsenal to miss out on two stars but could get upgrade at left back

first_img Hector Bellerin – Unlike in previous years, Arsenal may well be able to keep hold of a star player, despite the interest of Barcelona. Bellerin has shown plenty of promise in the last two campaigns and is now being targeted by the Spanish giants to replace Dani Alves. A bumper £80,000 a week deal should keep him at the Emirates, according to The Sun. 5 5 5 5 Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Borussia Dortmund) – Arsenal could lose out on the Armenian international this summer as Manchester United have begun making enquiries about his availability. The creative star is refusing to sign a new deal with the German giants and they’re now willing to sell him for around £25m. His agent is Mino Raiola, who also represents Zlatan Ibrahimovic, so a double deal might be on the cards – leaving Arsenal empty handed. Jamie Vardy (Leicester City) – Click the right arrow above for more Arsenal transfer news… – It now appears, despite hopes from the Gunners, the England international will snub them to remain with the Foxes. A £20m deal was in the offing but the London Evening Standard report the player is 80 per cent sure he will reject a move to the Gunners. 5 The signing of Granit Xhaka may have excited Arsenal fans but there is still plenty of work to do this summer.Manager Arsene Wenger needs to add another couple of stars to his squad if the Gunners are to finally regain the Premier League trophy.Several players have been linked and, as Euro 2016 goes on, more are likely to be connected with the club. But what are the latest rumours surrounding Arsenal’s transfer business? He said, “I admire and like N’Golo Kanté a lot. He gives you ideas. He gives you the feeling that the higher the level he plays at, the more at ease he is.” And then added, “He has incredible quality. He feels the game, only very few people can do that. He’s always where he needs to be.” Ricardo Rodriguez (Wolfsburg) – Arsenal could do with an upgrade at left-back and a player like Rodriguez would fit the bill. After representing Switzerland at Euro 2016 he will be looking to leave the Bundesliga side after it confirmed by Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs the player intended to quit the club after the failed to qualify for a European competition.
