Former Levski player brought a historic triumph to the Poles –…

first_imgFormer Levski defender David Jablonski left his name in golden letters in the history of Polish Krakow. The Czech defender scored one of the goals for his team in the final of the Polish Cup against Lechia (Gdansk), which ended 3: 2 after extra time. Krakow lost 1: 2 until the 88th minute, but Jablonski equalized and gave a chance to his team, and Mateusz Widowac brought the victory in the 116th minute. This is the historic first national cup for Krakow in the 114-year history of the club. The team from Krakow has become a champion 5 times, but for the last time in the distant 1948.The Brazilian with a Bulgarian passport Diego Ferrareso, who plays for Litex, Chavdar (Etropole), Slavia and Lokomotiv (Plovdiv), is also part of Krakow. He was in the group for the final, but remained in the reserves.last_img read more

Previewing the Second Half of Oklahoma State’s Schedule

first_imgThe Cowboys head to Lawrence, Kansas to face a Jayhawk team that will be outmatched and hasn’t won a conference game in nearly two years. There should be little concern for Cowboys fans as far as final results go. Kansas has beaten Oklahoma State once in the last 20 years, that team being the eventual Orange Bowl winner. But those days are far gone and this Jayhawk team should do well just to keep up with the Cowboys’ 15th-ranked scoring offense through the first quarter. But we’ve seen things get hairy up there in Lawrence in recent years. The Cowboys need to go up early and take control of the game. Silence those 22,000 fans (might be generous there) and allow your starters to rest and build confidence for your team heading into the last five games of the season. As we look past KU — exactly what the Cowboys can’t do — we see a Big 12 “murderer’s row” down the home-stretch of the season. Here’s why OSU can’t afford to make it a close game.West Virginia – HomecomingThe 12th-ranked Mountaineers have been playing lights-out and remain one of two unbeaten’s in the league and one of just eleven nation-wide. Dana’s squad is showing their defensive prowess as just held Texas Tech to 17 at home for the first time 45 years (that’s a ball-park estimation). At Kansas StateThe Wildcats are always a tough out at home. Oklahoma State has come home empty-handed their last two trips to the “Little Apple”, not winning there since 2010. Even at home, the Cowboys have only won the last two games by a combined six points.Texas TechWe know the Red Raiders can score and historically these have been shootouts. Oklahoma State will need to keep up with Tech’s offensive and play at least average on defense to pull this out. The last time OSU lost to the Red Raiders, Mike Leach still had a Lubbock address, but this game is in no way a “gimme”.At TCUThe Horned Frogs may have disappointed on the defensive front early but probably still deserve to be ranked in the Top 25. Their only losses are to current No. 17 Arkansas by three points and 16th ranked Oklahoma by six.As the second-leading Big 12 passer, Kenny “Trill”, continues to settle into his role TCU figures to be a very tough road game for the Cowboys by late November, maybe their toughest all year.At OklahomaOh my. Remember what just I said about TCU? This is going to be another tough one too. OU’s secondary got a little exposed early against the likes of Houston and Ohio State but unfortunately so did Oklahoma State’s.Whether the Cowboys are still in Big 12 contention or not, this will be the biggest game on the schedule for most and Mason Rudolph will look to continue his undefeated streak against OU …… Okay, his undefeated streak as a starter. Justice Hill Chases Oklahoma State Freshman Rushing Records

first_imgJustice Hill is a star. He might be a superstar. Hill has 568 yards on 108 carries this season which is good for 5.3 yards per carry. In Big 12 games that number jumps to 5.6 yards per carry. His 568 rushing yards would have led last year’s team over the course of its 13-game season. Hill will almost certainly lead this year’s team in rushing and has a chance to set the all-time freshman record for yards in a season by a running back. Here’s where he ranks on that list currently.Mike Hamilton (961 yards)Jamaal Fobbs (928 yards)Thurman Thomas (843 yards)Andre Richardson (774 yards)Kendall Hunter (696 yards)Keith Toston (631 yards)Rafael Denson (569 yards)Justice Hill (565 yards)Hill is averaging about 20 carries a game. Let’s say he keeps on his 5.3 YPC pace (remember, he’s beating that right now in conference play). Over the course of six more games, he would end up with 1,201 yards.Whooooo boy.Oklahoma State’s last 1,200-yard rusher was Joe Randle who had 1,417 in 2012. He also had just over 1,200 in 2011. That was his sophomore and junior seasons though. What Hill is doing one year removed from playing for Booker T. Washington is remarkable.“I’ve been saying since he came in that he was the real deal and that he would have a really good season,” said sophomore receiver Jalen McCleskey who knows a few things about freshman success.“He’s done really well,” said Gundy. “Justice is still young. He was playing high school ball last year. He is exciting and can make guys miss. We have improved in that area, and that’s given us a chance to be successful up to this point. He’s growing up.”Yes he is. And he’s taunting record books. As my buddy Matt Amilian pointed out, if Hill stays all four years, nobody will have been better positioned than him to make a run at the all-time number of 4,847 set by Thurman Thomas from 194-1987. Larry Fedora, North Carolina Trying to Flip OSU Quarterback Recruit

first_imgThe headliner of OSU’s 2017 recruiting class is being targeted by Larry Fedora and the North Carolina coaching staff. Jelani Woods, the 6-foot-7 quarterback from Ellenwood, Georgia, has been committed to the Cowboys since spring of this year with no wavering in his pledge, but circumstances around North Carolina, likely the possibility of preparing to lose their starting QB Mitch Trubisky to the NFL, have had them change their tone and target Woods. The Tar Heels have a No. 26 class ranking for 2017 according to 247sports, but they are without a quarterback. Here’s what Rivals.com reporter Woody Wommack said about their situation at QB:Originally it looked as if the Tar Heels were going to pass on taking a quarterback for this cycle, especially since they landed two four-star prospects in the class of 2016. However, things have changed quickly and now the school is targeting some committed prospects, including Oklahoma State commit Jelani Woods and Florida State commit Bailey Hockman.Woods has said recently that he plans to enroll early at OSU, and as far as I am aware, North Carolina has not extended a scholarship offer — at least not yet. But with North Carolina, a school that is much closer geographically, trying to jump into the picture this late in the game, it could be a factor and a situation to be aware of.My guess though? He’s Oklahoma State bound in January. While you’re here, we’d like you to consider subscribing to Pistols Firing and becoming a PFB+ member. Q&A: Getting To Know Kansas State

Because of our subscribers, we’ve been able to improve our work and provide the best OSU news and community anywhere online. Help us keep that up. We got to catch up with the authority on Kansas State football in beat writer Kellis Robinett of the Kansas City Star and Wichita Eagle, who also gave us some good insight on Wildcat alum turned head Cowboy, Brad Underwood. Other good stuff includes the K-State fans crowned successor of Bill Snyder and where to eat in Manhattan.1. The Wizard of Manhattan is in full form with another game-controlling, ground pounding Wildcat team. What are your thoughts so far on this 2016 Wildcat team?K-State has been pretty much what I expected it to be this season. It is 4-0 at home and 1-3 on the road. The Wildcats should qualify for their seventh-straight bowl game. The final four games will decide how good that bowl game is.2. Offensively, the Wildcats are loaded with a mix of veteran players (Ertz, Charles Jones) that know Snyder’s schemes and talent (Pringle, Silmon), to go with a developing offensive line. What are some of the keys to the 2016 Wildcat offense? The offensive line has played well, and the running backs have been above average. K-State’s offensive success seems tied to the passing game. When Jesse Ertz completes the majority of his throws, it can consistently move the chains. When he doesn’t, things break down.3. K-State leads college football in red zone scoring, to what do you attribute such great consistency inside the 20 yard line?K-State’s offense is built around short gains that take a lot of time off the clock. Those are ideal in the red zone. The Wildcats also have a good kicker in Matthew McCrane.4. This defensive unit has leads the league against the run and has some All-B12 caliber players like Jordan Willis, Elijah Lee and Dante Barnett. What types of schemes/players have they been good at shutting down this year and what things have they struggled with? They have been great against the run (5th nationally) and woeful against the pass (107th). If you’re an opposing offensive coordinator, you want to throw as much as possible against the Wildcats.5. We’re familiar with some playmakers at K-State in quarterback Jesse Ertz and receiver Dominique Heath and speedy linebacker Elijah Lee and sack master Jordan Willis. Who are some other players likely to impact the game in big ways on Saturday that Cowboy fans may not have heard of or maybe who are the rising stars of this Wildcat team?Deante Burton, a senior receiver, has really come on strong in his past few games. He could make some big catches against Oklahoma State. On defense, D.J. Reed is solid at corner.6. For the Cowboy fans making their way up to the Little Apple this weekend, what would you recommend as must see sites and good places to dine?If you’re in Aggieville, the best eating spots are So Long Saloon (burgers), Taco Lucha (tacos) and Coco Bolo’s (mexican). Not far away on Poyntz, Bourbon and Baker is good. So is the Tallgrass Taphouse.7. Do you have any favorite Bill Snyder stories that you could share with us?If you’re interested in Snyder stories, this article should keep you entertained.8. While things seem to have died down on the expansion front, what do you gather to be the general sentiment from K-State fans on whether or not to expand and who they would like to add?I get the sense most K-State fans wanted to expand to 12 teams. Snyder certainly did. Not sure who they would have chosen as their two teams, though. No great choices, unless you can raid another power conference, which is why the league stayed at 10.9. Head Coach Bill Snyder is incredible to have in the conference and it will be a sad day when he finally calls it quits. From what you hear, who do K-State fans like to be his eventual replacement?K-State fans love them some Brent Venables.10. Last of all, Cowboy fans are ecstatic to have one of Manhattan’s favorite sons in Brad Underwood taking over the program. Do you have any stories or insights you could share with us about him or his coaching style?Brad is awesome. He played at K-State and then came back as an assistant under Frank Martin and did a tremendous job. I always gave him a ton of credit for the success those teams had. One story that sticks out in my mind is that he had some crazy record for consecutive free throws made at a little over 100, and he constantly challenged K-State players to break it.Well, one day Will Spradling made 124 straight at the practice gym and started to gloat about it. But Underwood turned it around on him, telling him he should have got to the round number of 125. Who stops at 124? He found a way to keep Spradling motivated.last_img read more

Watch: Oklahoma State Football Players do the Mannequin Challenge

first_imgOklahoma State football joined in the latest craze of the Mannequin Challenge — where you basically just act like a mannequin while a video camera follows you around — and it was done in pretty epic fashion. Senior Chris Carson continued his impressive late-year stretch with an impressive 19-yard touchdown run to give the Cowboys a 17-6 third-quarter lead on the road over TCU. Carson finished the day with 146 yards on 17 rushes and gave OSU two 100-yard rushers in the same game for the first time since 2013.He has averaged over seven yards a carry since returning against Kansas halfway through the season after an early injury. Over seven yards a carry! And he’s not even the starting RB. Runs like this are the reason why. With the Cowboys needing a first down to run out the clock, Carson put one last exclamation point on the win with the mean truck stick on two(!) different TCU defenders in one run. He’s making a habit out that lately. last_img read more

Gundy, Patterson Discuss J.W. Walsh’s Role In OSU-TCU Game

first_imgI’m sure there will be hugs and hand pounds after the contest on Saturday, but before that it will be all business. No shady business, though.“For them, I think it’s an advantage because J.W. knows all of our signals,” said OSU coach Mike Gundy on Monday. “I know Gary [Patterson is] a nice, clean, honest guy, but I would think at some point he’s going to be interested in how much J.W. knows about our signals. But they know a lot about us, we know a lot about them. The game’s going to come down to taking care of the football and being sound in special teams. And, I’m sure both defenses are concerned about limiting big-time plays.”“Everything they do at Oklahoma State, in terms of signals, will be completely changed this week because of J.W.,” Patterson confirmed to the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram.Gundy noted that he thinks Walsh could eventually rise to take a head coaching position.“I would think he would do very well,” said Gundy. “He grew up eating breakfast with a guy that’s one of the best high school coaches in the history of Texas football. He’s a gym rat, loves the game. I would think he’d hang around for a while, probably get a start somewhere at a smaller school then before long be at our level.”Walsh isn’t the only coach on staff with Oklahoma State ties, either. TCU also employs Meacham (played and coached at OSU), defensice coordinator Chad Glasgow (played at OSU) and Curtis Luper (played and coached at OSU).“There’s no intermingling this week,” said Patterson. “You have to get ready to do your job. J.W. Walsh is here. You also have Meach, Luper and go down the list.”“I don’t talk to anybody during the season,” said Gundy when asked about the same thing. “I see [Meacham] every once in a while at a game or something, but I’m not a big communicator during the season.”So it sounds like while those of us watching would like to make a big deal out of the reuniting of one of the biggest fan favorites in OSU history, nobody involved really cares that much. Until he starts stealing signals anyway.Long live The General.J.W. Walsh’s final touchdown as a Cowboy. #Okstate pic.twitter.com/0Z0SdTquni— Carson Cunningham (@KOCOCarson) January 2, 2016 J.W. Walsh leaves the field #okstate https://t.co/uajFhwVGb0— Mark Cooper (@mark_cooperjr) January 2, 2016 In the spring of 2016, Gary Patterson talked about why J.W. Walsh ended up at TCU.“That’s the guy that coach [co-offensive coordinator Doug] Meacham wanted,” Patterson said via teleconference. “He wanted another guy that knew the system.”That’s who they got, and now Oklahoma State will face TCU and Walsh (who is a graduate assistant in Ft. Worth) for the first time.
