Related USA Triathlon (USAT) has launched a new and improved rankings engine – with more functionality and a crisper, cleaner look that will improve the way triathletes can find out where they stack up against others in the their age group in the United States. The rankings have been a valuable benefit for USAT members for several years. The system uses a mathematical formula to rank athletes according to their performances at USAT sanctioned events throughout the year, with the final year-end rankings determining ‘All-America’ and ‘Honorable Mention’ honours.“We are extremely excited about making this available to our members and the work our staff put in to make this a reality,” said USAT Operations Director Gordon Weldon. “This new engine offers more flexibility and robust functionality than our previous system. I am confident our members will appreciate how they are able to access their results and rankings more efficiently.”Athletes can search on specific events by type, distance, state, region, or category – or by a specific athlete to see individual results – with the reports and queries returned more quickly. If age-groupers want to know where they stack up against elite athletes, that functionality is now also available.Though non-USAT members are not included in the official year-end rankings, they can now see where they rank among USAT members at any point of the year and have the opportunity to sign up for annual membership to make their ranking official. The engine is also completely integrated with USAT’s membership and sanctioned races databases, allowing the system to be used to find complete results from every sanctioned USAT race. And race directors and event timers will soon be able to submit their results directly into the database, meaning a quicker turnaround of rankings following the completion of events. The system is also enabled for detecting errors, including removing duplicate and mis-assigned results.Plans are in place to add club and collegiate team ranking functionality in 2010.www.usatrankings.com www.usatriathlon.org

Hunters fullback Edene Gabbie ruled out for round 24 clash against Capras RUGBY LEAGUE By DENNYS IORERE PNG Hunters coach and his 18-man squad left the country yesterday without regular fullback Edene Gabbie who was ruled out with a knee injury in the last minute. PNG Rugby Football League media and public relations manager Ephata Samuel told the Post-Courier yesterday that Gabbie was sustained a knee injury and was ‘not fit’ to travel after undergoing medical checks. In a slight reshuffle, Samuel said Hunters utility back Adex Wera will replace the try-scoring freak at fullback for the away game at Browne Park in Rockhampton tomorrow. Gabbie will join Willie Minoga who has been rested for this weekend’s round 24 Intrust Super Cup clash against Central Queensland Capras after sustaining a groin injury. The 23-year-old fullback scored a double in their impressive 40-16 victory over the Wynnum Manly Seagulls in their last home in Port Moresby on Sunday. Wera will also be the second player to reach the 100 game-milestone for the Hunters in the Intrust Super Cup. Samuel added that Wera who is Hunters No.6 made his debut after playing at fullback against the Redcliffe Dolphins in March 2014. “In his first game for the Hunters he played at fullback and coincidentally he will be playing his 100th game at fullback,” Samuel said. “Butler Morris will move to the centres to replace Adex (Wera) while Patrick Morea will be the 18th travelling with the team.” Otherwise the rest of the team remains. The team is Adex Wera, Junior Rau, Thompson Teteh, Butler Morris, Bredon Gotuno, Ase Boas (Captain), Charlie Simon, Enoch Maki, Wartovo Puara Jr, Moses Meninga, Nixon Put, Rhadley Brawa, Stanton Albert, Interchange; Watson Boas, Ila Alu, McKenzie Yei, Dilbert Isaac and Patrick Morea. In an earlier interview, Boas (Ase) said he was confident they boys could pull off the much-needed win. “I have faith in the boys. For us, we got nothing to lose and we will be going there to defend our title when the finals come,” he said. “I urge all our supporters out there to come support us whether you watching live on TV or physically on the ground to watch, we need your support.” Marum also said the win would also cement their spot in the finals playoff. “A win will certainly have us in the finals. Whether it’s a home or away, it is (still) good for us. But like I said earlier, we are taking one game at a time and every challenge for us is important,” Marum said.

Wenger, meanwhile, has been at Arsenal since 1996, and signed a new contract extension at the Emirates Stadium despite growing opposition to his two-decade tenure. If total league matches are taken into account, however, the Frenchman still trails by some way.Ferguson also managed in 223 First Division matches for a total of 1,033 in the English top flight, a mark that would take Wenger almost six further seasons to overcome. After sitting in the danger zone with its APR score earlier this decade, Oklahoma State has made an about face when it comes to academics with its football team. The Cowboy football program’s 2015-16 rate of 974 and its multi-year rate of 953 both represent the highest marks it has achieved since the APR was implemented in 2003. This year’s multi-year rate was an improvement over the previous year for the fourth consecutive year. The magic four-year average for APR (which measures eligibility and retention) is 930. You have to hold an average of 930 or higher over the last four years to qualify for the postseason. A mark of 980 or higher is considered outstanding. A score of 1,000 is perfect. Here are the Big 12 multi-year rankings. OSU is still in the bottom half.“Our student-athletes are performing well in the classroom and the APR data shows that,” athletic director Mike Holder said. “The high scores are a reflection of the pride they take in their own development and also of the culture that our coaches and academic support staff have in place.”Head football coach Mike Gundy agreed.“We set a program record for APR this year and the numbers show – like in other areas of Oklahoma State football – that we are rising to the top,” Gundy said.“This is exactly what our staff wants. Not only are we winning on the football field, but we’re winning in the classroom. We have a great partnership with Marilyn Middlebrook and her team in the Academic Enrichment Center and we’re thankful for all the time and effort they put in to helping all of our student-athletes reach their goals in the classroom.”It’s good to see Pokes succeeding on and off the field.
